Utility AES Andes has started construction on two renewable energy projects in Chile, with a combined 1.3GW of capacity. Located in the northern region of Antofagasta, the Pampas and Cristales projects will combine solar PV, wind and energy storage.
[pdf] Currently, 8,292 MW are under construction, with 99% of renewable projects. Of these, 47.8% are photovoltaic (3,962 MW), 22.7% wind (1,882 MW) and 18.5% (1,530 MW) are battery storage systems (BESS).
[pdf] The Pampas and Cristales projects will collectively add 1,325 MW of generation capacity and 2.2 GWh of battery energy storage, backed by a combined investment exceeding $1.1 billion. Located in northern Chile, both projects will combine solar PV, wind, and co-located battery storage.
