Guyana's landmark Gas-to-Energy project reached a critical milestone with the arrival of a 30-MW backup battery energy storage system (BESS) at Georgetown's John Fernandes Wharf, according to OilNOW.
[pdf] The Red Sands project will be the largest standalone BESS to reach this stage on the continent, designed to store power during off-peak hours and release it when demand is highest—providing essential grid stability and flexibility for South Africa’s electricity network.
[pdf] The BESS project will have an installed capacity of around 30 MWh, which will be installed at ENGIE Energía Perú’s ChilcaUno Thermoelectric Power Plant, and will allow the plant to operate at full capacity, which translates into more efficient energy for the country, as well as contributing to improve the stability of the national power grid.
