The Government of Barbados has officially launched a major procurement process for the country’s first large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), aimed at transforming the national electricity grid and unlocking delayed renewable energy investments.
[pdf] The ministry’s Energy Mining Planning Unit (UPME) launched the tender earlier this year, calling for proposals for deploying grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) technology to help alleviate system constraints and boost reliability of the grid in Barranquilla, in the Department of Atlantico area of northern Colombia.
[pdf] Located near Vilnius, this project will be the country’s first commercial battery storage facility and is expected to increase Lithuania’s total storage capacity by approximately 50%. The system is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2025.
