October 4, 2024: An agreement was announced last month to construct a 50MW battery storage power station in the Baganuur district of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, which is expected to be commissioned in November 2024.
[pdf] The proposed project aims to install the first large-scale advanced battery energy storage system (BESS) in Mongolia to (i) supply clean peaking power that is charged by renewable energy electricity, which is otherwise curtailed; and (ii) provide regulation reserve to integrate additional renewable energy capacity in the transmission grid.

The renewable energy base combines multiple energy generation and storage technologies, including wind turbines, photovoltaic solar panels, and advanced energy storage solutions.
